Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 3, 2026 · Last updated: August 3, 2026
Snap Plants (“we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use the Snap Plants mobile application and related websites (together, the “Service”). We designed this policy to be clear and transparent — so you know what happens with your photos, plant data, and account details.
1. Who we are
Snap Plants is a consumer plant identification and care application. For privacy questions, contact us at admin@snapcollectibles.com.
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the Service, we may process the following categories of information:
Information you provide
- Contact details — such as your email address if you join a waitlist, contact support, or create an account.
- Plant collection data — names, notes, diagnosis history, wishlist or selling labels, and related metadata you save in the app.
- API credentials you enter — if you provide a third-party API key (for example, an OpenRouter key), it is stored on your device for your use of AI features. We do not sell these keys.
- Support messages — content you send when contacting us for help.
Information collected automatically
- Device and app information — device type, OS version, app version, language, and basic performance or crash diagnostics (if enabled).
- Usage data — approximate feature usage (for example, that identification was used), not the full content of every screen you view, unless needed for diagnostics you opt into.
3. Camera and photo usage
Snap Plants needs camera and/or photo library access to identify plants. Here’s how we treat that:
- Photos you take or select are used to generate plant identification and care guidance.
- Images may be sent to AI model providers you configure (or that we use to power identification) solely to return identification and care results.
- We do not use your plant photos for advertising, and we do not sell your photos.
- You can deny camera or photo access in system settings; some features will not work without them.
- Photos saved to your collection remain under your control and can be removed by deleting the entry or clearing app data.
4. Plant identification data
When you identify a plant, the Service may process the image and any category you select to return: a suggested common and scientific name, confidence score, care snapshot, symptoms, toxicity notes, and related resources.
- Identification is powered by AI models and may be imperfect. Results are educational, not professional botanical advice.
- If a third-party AI provider processes the image, that provider may temporarily process the content according to their terms and privacy practices. Where you supply your own API key, processing typically occurs under that provider’s relationship with you.
- We retain diagnosis history you choose to save so you can revisit past results. You may delete individual records or your collection where the app allows.
5. Analytics and diagnostics
We may use privacy-respecting analytics or crash reporting to understand stability and improve the product (for example, crash logs and aggregated feature usage). We avoid collecting plant photos into analytics tools unless strictly necessary for debugging a problem you report. You can limit certain tracking through your device settings where available.
6. Third-party services
We may use trusted third parties to operate the Service, such as:
- AI model and API providers (for plant identification and care text)
- Cloud hosting or backend infrastructure (if accounts or sync are offered)
- Email or support tools
- Analytics or crash reporting vendors
These providers process data only as needed to provide their services to us and are expected to protect it appropriately. External resource links inside the app (for example PlantNet, Wikipedia, RHS) are third-party sites governed by their own policies.
7. How we use information
- Provide, maintain, and improve plant identification and care features
- Save and display your plant collection and diagnosis history
- Respond to support requests
- Send product updates if you opt in (for example, waitlist or launch emails)
- Protect security, prevent abuse, and comply with law
8. Sharing and sale of data
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share plant photos or collection data with advertisers. We may share information only: with service providers under contract; if required by law or legal process; to protect rights, safety, or security; or with your direction (for example, when you export a CSV or share a plant).
9. Data retention and security
We retain information for as long as needed to provide the Service and for legitimate business or legal purposes. Collection data stored on your device remains until you delete it or uninstall the app. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information; no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
10. Children’s privacy
Snap Plants is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact admin@snapcollectibles.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
11. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you
- Export your plant collection (where the app provides CSV export)
- Withdraw consent for optional processing (such as marketing emails)
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority
To exercise these rights, email admin@snapcollectibles.com. You can also manage camera/photo permissions in your device settings and delete app data by uninstalling the app.
12. International users
If you use Snap Plants from outside the country where our systems or providers operate, your information may be processed in other countries that may have different data protection laws. We take steps designed to ensure appropriate safeguards where required.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new “Last updated” date. Material changes may be highlighted in the app or on our website. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
